# Virtual Engineer > Open-source engineering automation that carries software work from an assigned > ticket to a reviewed change. It connects issue trackers, source control, review > systems, and AI agent engines your team already uses, and runs every cycle on > your own infrastructure. Built and maintained by Savoir-faire Linux. Virtual Engineer is not a hosted SaaS. It is a self-hosted TypeScript orchestrator plus SQLite that polls issue trackers for tickets assigned to it, runs a coding agent in an ephemeral OpenShell sandbox, opens a change for review, answers reviewer feedback with follow-up commits, and closes the task once merged. ## Installation The installer is a thin proxy that always fetches the current installer from the upstream repository. It requires a POSIX shell with `curl`, and Node.js on the target host. ```sh curl -fsSL https://virtual-engineer.dev/install.sh | bash ``` Source and issue tracker: - [Source repository](https://github.com/savoirfairelinux/virtual-engineer) - [Installation documentation](https://virtual-engineer.dev/documentation.html#/start) ## Endpoints This website is a static marketing and documentation site. There is no hosted API, no MCP endpoint, and no paid endpoint — the product runs on infrastructure you control. | Path | Content | | --- | --- | | `/install.sh` | Shell installer proxy (text/x-shellscript) | | `/llms.txt` | This file | | `/llms-full.txt` | Full concatenated text of all pages on this site | | `/agents.txt` | Agent access policy for this site | | `/sitemap.xml` | XML sitemap | | `/robots.txt` | Crawler directives | | `/feed.xml` | RSS feed of site updates | | `/.well-known/agent-card.json` | A2A agent card | Human-readable pages: - [Home](https://virtual-engineer.dev/) — product overview, pipeline, and features - [Documentation](https://virtual-engineer.dev/documentation.html) — installation, configuration, and operations - [Integrations](https://virtual-engineer.dev/integrations.html) — supported trackers, review systems, and agent engines - [Security](https://virtual-engineer.dev/security.html) — sandbox model, credentials, and audit trail - [About us](https://virtual-engineer.dev/about.html) — project governance, license, and maintainer ## Authentication None. Everything on this site is public and requires no credentials. The installer is served over HTTPS without authentication and downloads its payload from `raw.githubusercontent.com`. ## Examples Check that the installer is reachable before running it: ```sh curl -fsSI https://virtual-engineer.dev/install.sh ``` Install and run the orchestrator on your own host: ```sh curl -fsSL https://virtual-engineer.dev/install.sh | bash ``` Read the documentation as plain text without scraping HTML: ```sh curl -fsSL https://virtual-engineer.dev/llms-full.txt ``` ## Supported integrations Issue trackers: GitHub Issues, GitLab, Redmine. Change review: GitHub Pull Requests, GitLab Merge Requests, Gerrit. Agent engines: GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Aider, Goose, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Cursor. ## Operations - Runtime: Node.js orchestrator with SQLite storage, self-hosted. - Sandboxing: every cycle runs in an ephemeral OpenShell sandbox under deny-by-default runtime policies; push credentials stay host-side. - Audit: every state transition is recorded, alongside model usage and cost. - Licence: GPL-3.0-only. ## Optional - [Source repository](https://github.com/savoirfairelinux/virtual-engineer) — GPL-3.0-only source, issues, and contributions - [Savoir-faire Linux](https://savoirfairelinux.com) — the company maintaining the project
